Seven power-saving tips for your smartphone

Individuals nowadays will feel incomplete without their gadgets, smartphones in particular. There are many dos and don’ts when it comes to conserving your smartphone’s battery. Even with power banks ready to save the day, it’s good to get the most out of your phone’s power.

Turn off vibration for all kinds of alarms and notifications. This option in phones can be handy at times, but definitely not always, as it can use up more energy than ringtones. Lessen screen time to make sure your battery lasts a full day and set up screen time to prevent apps from running throughout the day. Kati Volitich says it would be beneficial for the battery life to keep the screen dim. The brighter the screen is; the more power it uses to project the phone’s display.

When you’re inactive, say while you sleep, attend a meeting, or work on a major project that doesn’t require the use of your phone, turn it off to save power. Close unnecessary apps, as these can eat up the battery even when the phone is on sleep mode. If at all possible, disable automatic app background refresh to prevent apps from using battery and memory while inactive.

Kati Volitich suggests for users to disable GPS on their phones. When left running, your phone’s GPS or apps that use it, send and receive signals even in the background. Turn off WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G/4G when not in use. Leaving these features running throughout the day is an obvious way to drain the battery.
